Case Picking Order Fulfillment

Picking full container or boxes of products is defined as case picking. It is most common in business-to-business applications in which the distribution center (DC) is responsible for fulfilling retailer or store location orders.

MMCI Order Fulfillment designs and implements case picking solutions that can be semi-automated or fully-automated to fit the right level of automation required for each DC, depending upon factors like order profiles and labor costs.

With semi-automated, the benefit being that the DC can still achieve significant efficiencies at a lower cost than fully-automated solutions. Common types of semi-automated case picking methods:

Steady Picking Location

This solution brings the picks to the order picker, referred to as goods-to-person. Here, the order picker will build the customer’s pallet in a stationary location, rather than traveling through a pick path.

Goods-to-Person

Pick-to-Pallet System

In this solution, the order picker will pick the customer’s orders directly onto the pallet as he or she is directed through the pick path using a voice-directed or mobile-directed technology.

Case Picking, case picking strategies

Fully-automated case picking solutions are best suited for large size DCs that deal with processing several thousands of orders a day. In most cases, however, MMCI Order Fulfillment is able to provide our clients with a semi-automated solution that can provide 80% of the efficiency received from a fully-automated solution at 20% of the cost. Our solutions are scalable and expandable, allowing for future growth and increased order volume.
