Zone Routing Order Fulfillment

Zone routing reduces the amount of operator handling time, eliminating unnecessary steps in a conveyor picking system. This is handled by pick zone transfers through zone-skipping or loop-routing based on the order content. With zone routing, the tote or container will only travel to the necessary pick zones for that order, bypassing zones where picks are not required.

Each zone has an assigned picker. When the tote or container reaches the picker’s zone, our software tells the picker what items to pick and the quantity. Once all the picks have been completed, the order will route out of the pick path, bypassing any remaining zones, and head downstream to pack-out and shipping.

In a pick and pass system, zone routing can offer efficiencies by reducing the amount of handling through zones where picks are not required. Zone routing is an integral system in warehouse automation.
