Controls Engineering Design

Electrical Design

System Function

MMCI Automation begins its controls engineering process by authoring a document to completely describe the system operation (Description of Operation or DO). The electrical device layouts are also produced as a companion document for the description of operation. These documents are reviewed with the customer to ensure complete understanding of the system deliverables before hardware design begins.

Hardware Design

Hardware Design

Based on the customer’s specifications and the DO, we then create the most efficient electrical configuration and design necessary to achieve maximum productivity from your system. Schematics are created using AutoCAD.

Software Design

PLC Programming

Once hardware design is complete, software design begins. Each project is different, and a custom software application is developed for each project. However, many individual pieces of projects are the same and, in those cases, we apply our well-tested standard programs. We have standard programs for most conveyor functions. The simplest ones are for photo-eye conveyor full logic up to more advanced functions like multi-lane merges and sorting. PLC and HMI programming are completed prior to on site commissioning.

HMI Controls

Human Machine Interface

MMCI offers a Human Machine Interface (HMI) to monitor all aspects of your system. All control devices are monitored, and their status is shown graphically on plan view screens of the conveyor system. A main screen acts as a screen directory for all areas of the system. The main screen will highlight areas of the system with any faults present. For example, if an emergency stop device is activated, the HMI will indicate the exact location, so it can be easily reset. The same is true for jam detection.

A symbol key is provided to depict the meaning of all device symbols. Text based current fault screens and historical fault data screens are provided. Remote access to the HMI system via PC, tablet, or cell phone can be provided.
